Our Ongoing Energy Transition: Learning from Southwest Virginia

In recent years, I’ve had the pleasure of working with many coal-reliant communities that are seeking to address impacts of our ongoing energy transition.  As part of this work, EntreWorks Consulting is an official partner in the  Building Resilient Economies in Coal Communities (BRECC) project sponsored by the National Association of Counties (NACo).  Thanks to BRECC, we’re learning a great deal about how communities across the US are dealing with major coal mine or powerplant closures.  In June, we had an excellent trip to Southwest Virginia, where folks are engaged in a host of promising and innovative activities around economic diversification and regional resilience.  A short piece on this visit appeared in the latest issue of NACo’s County News journal, which you can access here.  You can learn more about BRECC and sign up for updates here.
