Working with partners at the Center for Rural Entrepreneurship and the Aspen Institute, EntreWorks Consulting facilitated development of the 2016-2020 Strategic Plan for the Appalachian Regional Commission. This work, Investing in Appalachia’s Future, engaged more than 3,000 residents across the 13 state region, and provided a work plan to drive ARC investments and programs across a wide portfolio of ARC’s activities.

Project Spotlight:

For more than a decade, EntreWorks Consulting supported the North Carolina Rural Center on a number of projects advancing rural entrepreneurship. These included the creation of the North Carolina Institute for Rural Entrepreneurship and the creation of the statewide Business Resource Alliance. Other projects included the development of business development plans for rural NC communities, including Elizabeth City and Robeson County/Lumberton. A final engagement led to the creation of a statewide rural manufacturing asset map, with a special focus on key industries such as food-related manufacturing, aerospace, and industrial machinery.

Project Spotlight:

From 2015-2020, EntreWorks Consulting served as a lead technical advisor on the Coal-Reliant Communities Innovation Challenge program, a national initiative to assist communities recovering from job losses in coal-related industries.  This effort, funded by several federal agencies, provide technical assistance to help communities diversity their local economies, provide new employment opportunities to displaced workers, and to foster the development of new economic engines.  Overall, the initiative provided technical to dozens of communities located in more than a dozen states.

Project Spotlight:

EntreWorks Consulting led a research project to assess Indiana’s entrepreneuership ecosystems as they related to new opportunities in the agbiosciences.  This effort spawned a host of new initiatives at AgriNovus, including industry-focused accelerator programs, an annual innovation summit, the Ag-celerator Fund, and the THRIVE Agtech Midwest Challenge.

For many years, Erik Pages of EntreWorks Consulting has served as a lead trainer for the International Economic Development Council’s course work related to Entrepreneurship, Small Business Development, and Technology-Based Economic Development.  He has also provided similar training support to other state, national, and international associations and organizations.
