Which Universities Excel at Creating Company Founders?

Pitchbook is out today with its annual ranking of global universities.  Given Pitchbook’s investment focus, the rankings seek to assess which universities are excelling in terms of creating new company founders, i.e. future entrepreneurs. This top 100 list is based on tracking of more than 173,000 venture capital-backed founders. The top performers list doesn’t really include any major surprises, but here’s the top 5 in each category:

  • Undergraduate Programs:  University of California, Berkeley, Stanford, Harvard, Penn and MIT.
  • Graduate Programs:  Stanford, Harvard, MIT, Columbia, and UCAL Berkeley
  • MBA Programs:  Harvard, Stanford, Penn, INSEAD, Columbia.

While the Pitchbook analysis does not offer a deeper dive into assessing key trends, it’s pretty clear why these schools excel.  They not only provide world class education, but they also help students and entrepreneurs access the world’s leading experts and networks for raising funds, hiring talent, and developing new technologies.
